*UPDATE* DEADLY COBRA STILL LOOSE AT THE BRONX ZOO!




A deadly poisonous cobra that disappeared from its enclosure at the Bronx Zoo last week is still missing, officials reported Monday.


The 20-inch-long Egyptian cobra has not been seen in the Reptile House since Friday afternoon, but zoo officials believe that it has not gone far, and isn’t in a public area, according to reports.


The Reptile House has been closed all weekend, and it will remain that way until officials are able to locate the cobra.


"We are confident that the snake is contained in a non-public, isolation area within the building," a statement said, adding that snakes are known to prefer enclosed spaces to open areas.


Officials say the snake is a juvenile of the species, and it is expected to emerge once it is hungry or thirsty enough. READ MORE
