Jay-Z & Timbaland Sued for 2000 Hit "Big Pimpin"

"The legal battle over a sample used in Jay-Z's hit single “Big Pimpin'” continues in court, as a lawsuit has been filed against the rapper and producer Timbaland.

Ahab Joseph Nafal filed a $5,000,000 lawsuit on July 23rd in United States District Court, Central District of California.

The lawsuit revolves around the use of the song “Khosara, Khosara,” which Timbaland sampled in Jay-Z's 2000 hit single "Big Pimpin'."

Lawyers argued that "Khosara, "Khosara" was created in 1957 and was governed by the 1909 Copyright Act and not the 1976 Copyright Act.

The lawsuit was dismissed in 2007, because Nafal failed to join all individuals with rights to the composition in the lawsuit, as the 1909 Act mandates.

In the earlier lawsuit, lawyers for Jay-Z and Timbaland and claimed they received proper sample clearance from representatives of the Baligh Hamdy, the original composer of the song." - read more - via All Hip-Hop

New Music!!!: Bridget Kelly "Thinking About Forever" Written by Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean takeover has begun...

"You know that "new" Frank Ocean joint that he posted to his Tumblr the other night and then quickly deleted? Well, it turns out dude deleted it because it wasn't technically his track. Yeah, he might have written it and clearly sang the damn thing, but it was apparently a reference track for Bridget Kelly. She's calling it "Thinking About Forever" and, wouldn't you know it, she sounds just as good as Ocean did, if not slightly better. This song has hit potential written all over it, especially considering her connections, so get used to it. Those of you who have seen Jay-Z in concert these past few years might recognize her as the booming voice behind the live version of "Empire State of Mind."" - via Prefix

J. Cole Gives Jay-Z a Deadline to Turn in Verse (video)

Many sit in anticipation and uncertainty to hear what J. Cole has in store on his debut album, but one thing for sure is a classic calab with Jigga Man himself. J. Cole sat down with MTV to discuss the collaboration and the genesis of the beat and the hook. He also jokingly tells Jay not to forget about him, and to get his verse back to him asap.
“I actually did the song thinking I would just throw it out when I made it.  I made it in my crib and I was like, ‘Man I’m gonna throw something out today, or tomorrow whatever, let me do a song.’ Then I started making it, and as soon as I made it, I was like, ‘Oh nah, nah.’ I had already wrote the verses and I realized, ‘Man, this is for Jay.’ I finally made a song that was perfect for Jay.”

“When people hear the hook, it’s kind of like a message — I could be talking to a woman, to my girl, or to my fans or to friends. But it’s really a subliminal message to my fans in that hook.”

NEW MUSIC!!!!: Jay-Z & Kanye West "OTIS"

This album is gonna be bananas!!!!

"Another track from the highly-anticipated new joint project from Jay-Z & Kanye West has sprouted up online.

'Otis' is heavy on the sampling of the late Otis Reddings' 1966 tune 'Try A Little Tenderness'. So much so, in fact, that the track names Otis in the feature credits." - read more - via ABC

It's game over for Beyoncé and the video game company that's suing the "Bootylicious" beauty.
The sexy superstar is portrayed by Gate Five LLC as a Grinch who "destroyed" its business and "drove 70 people into unemployment" one week before Christmas.

In a suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, the company says Mrs. Jay-Z abruptly bailed out on a joint venture to commercialize the video game Starpower: Beyoncé. Gate Five lost its $6.7 million investment, the suit says, as well as more than $100 million in profits the company would have earned if the deal survived.

"Her actions were so unscrupulous that her then-manager [who is also her dad] renounced them, while a senior executive of the company...condemned her conduct as 'morally reprehensible' in an email he sent to one of her talent agents," the suit says. Beyoncé and her rep could not be reached." SOURCE

Nets fined $50,000 for Jay-Z's visit

"The New Jersey Nets have been fined $50,000 for Nets minority owner Jay-Z's presence in the Kentucky locker room after the Wildcats clinched a Final Four berth.

League spokesman Tim Frank confirmed the fine Friday before the Nets played the New York Knicks at the Prudential Center.

NBA rules prohibit team personnel from having contact with players who are not yet draft eligible. The NBA's investigation, first reported by CBSSports.com, was triggered by a video showing Jay-Z visiting with various Kentucky players in their locker room at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J" READ MORE: Via ESPN

What Happened?!: Kanye West "Monster" Video Banned

"Kanye West has never been one to shy away from controversy, but fans and activists alike are concerned his newest video "Monster" glorifies violence against women. That's why activists Sharon Haywood and Melinda Tankard Reist created a petition asking MTV and Universal Music Group to pull the offensive and misogynistic video. MTV recently responded to the over 1,600 Change.org members who signed their petition, agreeing not to air "Monster." But Haywood and Reist's work is far from over, as Universal Music Group still hasn't responded.

"Monster" is not the usual scantily-clad, hyper-sexualized women washing expensive cars with even more expensive champagne. The video features West, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and Nikki Minaj surrounded by the "sexy" corpses of women in lingerie. Other women dangle from the ceiling by chains. Behind Jay-Z, a dead, naked woman lies with her mouth wide open, bluntly indicating her last act was a sexual one. Ross erotically eats a plate of raw meat from between a female corpse's legs. And West practically rapes the dead bodies of two women in bed. The message of the video is pretty clear: women are sex objects and it can be erotic when they are killed in violent, sexual ways." C'mon Son: Hov Hair Day

We all know Hov was unsuccessful at getting Lebron James or Carmelo Anthony over to the Nets, but.... has he just given up on life?! LMFAO  He was seen last night with Beyonce at the home debut of the New Jersey Nets newest star Deron Williams. Williams had 13 points and 18 assists Monday in his home debut, but Humphries' tip-in just missed beating the overtime buzzer in a 104-103 loss to the visiting Suns. With all that being said...... Why is Jay-Z going for the Huey Newton look?

Jay-Z confirms 'Annie' remake with Willow Smith

It's official: Jay-Z is teaming with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, along with some other folks, to form a joint venture to develop and produce movies.
First project will be a "re-imagination of the classic Broadway musical Annie as a vehicle for Willow Smith," according to an announcement by Overbrook Entertainment, the Smith's company.
The partnership began over dinner with Jada, Will, James Lassiter and Jay-Z, where they decided to co-invest in the now successful beauty products line Carol's Daughter. They continued this partnership as co-producers of the successful Broadway production Fela!, which earned 11 Tony Award nominations in 2010.
Willow Smith is already signed to Jay-Z's record label, Roc Nation, which produced her first hit single titled Whip My Hair. Jay-Z previously sampled the classic Annie song It's the Hard Knock Life in his chart-busting single Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem). -- Via USA today

"Jigga adds 'Buffalo Boss' to his portfolio after investing the popular Brooklyn restaurant. Jay-Z has been a boss to many over the years, but being a Buffalo Boss is definitely a first. The Marcy Projects native has invested in the popular chicken wings restaurant Buffalo Boss.

Hov isn't alone in his new venture, his Mother Gloria, his sister Andrea and his cousin Jamar White have also put their money behind the Brooklyn eatery. Buffalo Boss, located on Fulton St. near Flatbush Ave in downtown Brooklyn, offers nine types of wings and free delivery. All their chicken is organic and hormone and trans fat free." - Via HipHopDX
