NEW YORK (PIX11)—A homeless man stabbed a woman in the face with a pen Tuesday morning, after she confronted him about smoking inside a crowded subway subway car, police said.
Caroberto Cordero, 35, began lighting up a cigarette inside a downtown No. 3 train during the morning rush when straphanger Evelyn Seeger, 45, asked him to stop.
Cordero began arguing with Seeger, and quickly escalated to the homeless man waving a lighter with a large flame in her face.
Seeger knocked the lighter out of Cordero's hand and he came back swinging with a pen.
The homeless man stabbed Seeger, a market manager for an educational non-profit, in the temple and slahed her face all the way down to her nose.
Other straphangers restrained Cordero until the train arrived at the Broadway and Chambers Station, where waiting police officers took him into custody.
Seeger, a Nutley, New Jersey resident, was transported to New York Downtown Hospital, where she was treated and released. Cordero was charged with felony assault.
