Former Michigan/NBA Player Robert "Tractor" Traylor Dies

"Former NBA and University of Michigan player Robert "Tractor" Traylor has died. He was 34.

Police in San Juan, Puerto Rico, said in a statement he was found dead Wednesday on the bedroom floor of his oceanfront apartment. Police and Traylor's team, the Bayamon Cowboys, said he had been missing for a few days and apparently died from a heart attack.

Cowboys team manager Jose Carlos Perez told The Associated Press that Traylor had been talking by phone to his wife in Chicago when the connection was suddenly cut off. She called team officials Wednesday and they checked on him, Perez said.

The 6-foot-8, 300-pound Traylor was injured and had not been playing, the team said. Traylor was drafted by the Mavericks with the sixth pick in 1998, but they traded his rights to Milwaukee in a major deal that sent Dirk Nowitzki to Dallas. Traylor played for the Bucks in the first two seasons of a seven-year NBA career that included stops in Cleveland, Charlotte and New Orleans.

"The entire Milwaukee Bucks organization is saddened by the news of Robert Traylor's death," the Bucks said in a statement. "Robert was a fierce competitor on the court who helped the Bucks reach the playoffs in each of his two seasons in Milwaukee.

"Off the court he was a gentle giant, displaying his smile and care, especially toward young people through his involvement in school visits and his work with the Special Olympics clinic."

He got his "Tractor" nickname in high school for his girth, and although he eventually became a lottery pick, he is best known for an eventful stint at Michigan that took place shortly after the departures of Fab Five stars Chris Webber, Juwan Howard and Jalen Rose." read more - via USA Today

KOBE BRYANT FINED 100,000 FOR CALLING AN NBA OFFICIAL A "FAGGOT"

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- The NBA has fined Kobe Bryant $100,000 for directing a gay slur at a referee during Tuesday's game against the San Antonio Spurs.

It happened during an outburst by Bryant after he received his 15th technical foul of the season.

Game video shows a clearly upset Kobe hit a chair, throw a towel and then yell at referee Bennie Adams, calling him a "f***ing f**got."

Bryant responded Wednesday morning after growing criticism about the remark.

"What I said last night should not be taken literally," Bryant said in a statement.

"My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period. The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone."

In announcing the fine, NBA issued a statement from Commissioner David Stern. "Kobe Bryant's comment during last night's game was offensive and inexcusable,'' Stern said. "While I'm fully aware that basketball is an emotional game, such a distasteful term should never be tolerated.''

"Kobe and everyone associated with the N.B.A. know that insensitive or derogatory comments are not acceptable and have no place in our game or society,'' Stern added.

One of
TNT's announcers, Steve Kerr, noticed, and immediately remarked, "Might want to take the camera off him right now, for the children watching."

The
Lakers star could receive a fine or suspension, pending the outcome of an NBA review.

The
Human Rights Campaign -- the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights group -- criticized Bryant sharply.

"What a disgrace for Kobe Bryant to use such horribly offensive and distasteful language, especially when millions of people are watching," the HRC said in a statement.

Bryant called HRC president Joe Solmonese to apologize Wednesday, expressing "understanding and regret" for his language.

"I applaud Kobe Bryant for his swift apology. We had a very sincere conversation in which he expressed his heartfelt regret for the hurt that his words caused. He told me that it's never ok to degrade or tease, and that he understands how his words could unfortunately give the wrong impression that this is appropriate conduct. At the end of a difficult day, I applaud Kobe for coming forward and taking responsibility for his actions."

Hey You, Nut Face: Tyreke Evans Posterizes Gary Neal

"The end of the NBA regular season is near and some teams have absolutely nothing to lose. This dilemma usually hinges on the double-edge with slacking or an extra hustle motivating the players. Rumor has it that the Sacramento Kings are on their way to Anaheim since they can’t cut it in Cali’s capital. But talent issues aside, they still are worth an “ooh” and “ahh” a quarter every now and then.

Tyreke Evans may have had some off-the-court problems this season, but he poses one for Gary Neal with a hurricane slam. That’s hurricane, as in everything is coming off the ground. The Kings still got that ass whooped by over 30 points (yikes!) but when you’re out of the playoff hunt, you’re essentially playing for highlights.

Gary, Gary, Gary. You got to get  out the paint when you see grown folks ‘a dunkin’. It’s been a bumpy year for your bum. "
