WINDHAM, N.H. (PIX11)—
However, police say that Salem planning board member Jeffrey Gray, 48, invited the 34-year-old woman into the Windham, NH, home and then held her captive -- raping her repeatedly for three days.
Gray now faces charges of rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and assault, according to officials.
Windham Prosecutor Heather Newell said in court, "He willfully and physically held somebody against their will, completely degraded her and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions."
After holding the woman for three days, he then drove her to Logan International Airport in Boston and tried to put her on a flight back to New York. Instead, the 34-year-old told a Massachusetts state trooper about the attack, authorities said.
She was treated for minor injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to reports.
Gray reportedly went into hiding after the attack by checking himself into a veteran’s hospital in Brockton for two weeks.
Gray reportedly has a history of domestic abuse, criminal mischief and criminal threatening.
He was finally arrested Tuesday at the hospital by Brockton police, according to reports.
Colleagues on the planning board say Gray always seemed very professional, even emailing ahead to let them know he'd miss a March 8th planning meeting due to quote family matters, instead, according to police, he was finishing up his terrifying three-day assault.
Windham Police Captain Mike Caron says the victim is recovering, "We're in constant communication with her and she's fine at this time."
